While my diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) was very different than yours, our paths are similar. Genetic transmission of AD is rare, and I carried none of the markers. My path to AD? I'm convinced it was the ridiculous stress of my jobs, long hours, lack of sleep (it used to be a badge of honor to brag that I survived on 4-5 hours of sleep a night), and inconsistent nutritional habits (eating great and then ruining it with 4-5 bottles of Diet Mountain Dew each day for years) that kicks off the path to AD 10-20 years before diagnosis.

It's never too late to inject better practices into your life to extend whatever time you have left. I refuse to give up, and my one way to try to slow the demon inside my brain is a healthy lifestyle, self-care, and a strong support network. Others can do the same, just as you and I have done.

Thanks for the excellent article, we can all learn from your insights and experiences!

Thanks, Scott. Our paths only overlapped very briefly in an exec offsite, but I thought you were a refreshing addition to the team. I was sorry to see you leave, and even sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I’m glad you’re finding ways to take care of yourself in the middle of that challenge. Take care.
